Jake began his volleyball career at Mar Vista High School in Imperial Beach, California. He started competing on the Boys varsity volleyball team at age 15 in his freshman year of High school (2004-2007), earning First-Team All-Conference honors from 2005-2007. He was voted South Bay League Player of the Year in 2007 and All-CIF in 2006 & 2007. The team made it to the Division II CIF semi-finals from 2004-2007.

After high school, Jake took his volleyball career and education to the next level and accepted a volleyball scholarship to top NAIA Volleyball Program, Park University. A team captain of Park University Men’s Volleyball in Kansas City, Missouri, Jake helped the Pirates to the 2008 Tachikara NAIA Men’s Volleyball National Invitational Championship as a player. That season, the team completed their season with a 29-1 record (.960) and MAMVIC West Conference championship en route to the national championship. During the 2010-2011 season, Jake led the NAIA in hitting percentage (.431) as an explosive 6’ 5” middle blocker. The Pirates advanced to the NAIA National Invitational Tournament semi-finals.

He remained at the University during the 2011-2012 season to finish his last semester of school and served as a student assistant for the Women’s Volleyball team and once he graduated was hired as the Assistant Coach under (now) 5x NAIA National Championship Head Coach Mike Talamantes. He helped lead Park University to a 21-7 (.730) overall record and the 2012 Tachikara NAIA National Championship.

After his success in the collegiate realm Jake once again took the next step and pursued his playing career further, this time, overseas to compete professionally with UVC Holding Graz in Graz, Austria during the 2013-1014 volleyball season in Europe. As the shortest Middle Blocker in the Austrian Bundesliga, Jake helped lead his team to a 4th place finish in the league and qualify for the European Challenge Cup for the second year in a row. Jake finished his Professional Indoor Volleyball career in 2015-2016 where he competed in the Israeli Volleyball League for Maccabi Hod Hasharon in Hod Hasharon, Israel and lead the team to a 3rd place finish in the league where Jake was once again a league leader in Hitting Percentage (46.08%) and Attacking Efficienty (60.41%).

For his achievements, during and post high school in the sport of volleyball, Jake was honored by his Alma Mater, Mar Vista High School by having his jersey retired and memorialized in the rafters of Mar Vistas gymnasium and also honored by the San Diego Hall of Champions by having his name placed in their hall of fame as a High School Volleyball Hall of Famer.

From his senior year in High School to the present, Jake has been coaching boys and girls of all ages, positions, and skill groups. With experience in coaching NCAA hosted camps all over the country, club seasons with age groups from 12-18 years old and working individually with athletes of experience levels ranging from beginners to professionals, Jake has developed a strong coaching mindset that allows him to break down fundamentals and technique to cater to any skill level and age.

Jake will be going into his 2nd full year of coaching with COAST Volleyball Club. Jake is currently the new assistant coach of UCSD Men’s Volleyball program and will be going into his first season of NCAA season under Head Coach, Kevin Ring. In 2016-2017 Jake was hired as head coach of Del Norte High School Boy’s Varsity volleyball team and head coach of Saint Augustine High School Boys Beach volleyball team.
