Zach Penolio

Coaching: Boys

Born in San Diego, California February 3, 1991 to Joe and Rebecca Penolio. Started his volleyball career in 2006 at Mar Vista High School (Imperial Beach, California) as a freshman with the Varsity squad. In 2007 he earned 2nd team All-South Bay as the only underclassman to be recognized in the league also earning League Champions that year. In 2008, he would earn 1st team All South Bay, 2nd Team CIF Div II. By his Senior year with Mar Vista he went on to earn South Bay Player of the Year, 1st Team CIF Div II honors as well as a 1st Team All San Diego Section award (1 of 10) and the 3rd consecutive League Championship with South Bay.

From 2006-2009 Zach was a starter for Seaside Volleyball Club making an 11th, 17th and 5th place finish during Boys’ Junior Olympics Open tournament.

He continued his playing career at Park University in Kansas City, MO from (2009-2013).
Zach earned a National Invitational Tournament All Tournament honors as a sophomore (only athlete from Park University) and led the Park Pirates in total kills (465) for the season and also earning 1st Team All-MAMVIC Conference honors. In 2012, Park went on to win the NAIA National Championship. By his senior season Zach had accumulated over 1200 kills as a Pirate and made another appearance in the final of the NAIA National Invitational Tournament losing to Concordia Irvine. Park tied its winningest record in history for the 2013 season with 19 consecutive wins and overall record of 29-2.

In 2013, Zach was also recognized with a NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) Athlete of the Year award as the only male athlete across all sports within Park University. This award is based on athletic achievements through an athletes career. Weightlifting, vertical jump and 40 yard sprint were all recorded.

After college he was fortunate enough to continue as a professional volleyball player in Greece, The Netherlands and most recently Sweden. (2013-2016).

(2014) – Transfer to Abiant Lycurgus (Netherlands Eredivisie) (January-April).
-6th place finish in regular season.
-3rd place finish in playoffs.
-Highest attack efficiency in a single match, 76% 19/26, as position 4 player.

(2013) -Panathinaikos A.O (Greece, A1 Volleyleague),(August -December).
-Player of the Match against Ethniko Alexandropoulis (week 5).
-3rd best scorer on Panathinaikos

Zach’s newest career goals are transition his volleyball expertise to beach volleyball as an athlete and to qualify for his first AVP Main Draw by the next season in 2018 . He is currently studying for a strength & conditioning certification through the National Speed & Explosion Association as a CSS (Certified Speed Specialist). He hopes to accumulate as much knowledge and certifications to help train athletes of all ages across all respective sports (including himself).
