I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to San Diego about 6 years ago! Needless to say, I love it and feel like I am finally home! I am often found playing at South Mission Beach as I am the President of the Board for San Diego BIG (Beach Improvement Group). A local non-profit that maintains the 7 men’s and 7 women’s volleyball nets. I along with my team replace the lines, hardware, nets and work with the city to groom the sand on the courts weekly.
I first started playing both indoor and beach volleyball in 6th grade. After that I started playing with my cousin and best friend Stephen McGuire in 2000. Since then I have played volleyball in organized leagues 2-4 days a week. Playing beach seasonally and then transitioning to indoor during the winters in Cleveland. While I have played very competitive and organized USAV indoor tournaments my true passion is beach! Second to playing beach, is coaching and sharing what volleyball has given so many of us! It is more than a sport, it is a way of life full of family and friends!
I graduated from the University of Dayton with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating I taught English in South Korea for a year. It was an amazing experience and my first time abroad. Upon returning home I started working for Thielsch Engineering out of Ohio, I travelled the US as a Project Manager working in coal & gas burning power plants for years until I decided I needed more out of my career and life. I moved to California and now work for SolarCity, the largest clean energy provider to home owners in the US and I get to play beach volleyball year round!
