Ozhan Bahrambeygui draws upon twenty seasons of coaching experience as the Director of COAST VBC. At the college level, Ozhan coached in the Big West Conference at the University of California, Irvine in 2000. In 1996 Ozhan assisted for Itsu Matsanaga, (the former Japanese National Team Coach) while training the University of Wisconsin Badgers. Over the years Ozhan has founded or directed three different elite club programs. As a head coach, Ozhan’s 18s teams have won four Junior Olympic Medals in the 18 Open and two teams in his club have finished as the #1 rank team in the nation (most recently the 2014 COAST 18-1.) Ozhan’s staff has earned fourteen other Junior Olympic medals for their girls and boys teams while working in his club program.
As a San Diego native Ozhan has trained ten Union-Tribune and North County San Diego Players of the Year”, thirty-six “Senior Aces” athletes (previously termed Fab 50), thirteen high school All-Americans, twenty-four Pac-12 players, seven collegiate All-Americans, five AVCA National D1 Players of Week and three NCAA Division I National Champions. In the 2010 five COAST players participated NCAA Division 1 Final Four. Among these athletes, two players made the (twenty person) 2012 Olympic Training Team roster.
A handful of Ozhan’s former players have attained the highest honors at the next level. Candice Wiggins a volleyball athlete in San Diego from 2001 to 2004 was named the 2008 NCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Year. Juliann Faucette was named the 2008 NCAA Division I Freshmen of the Year. Summer Ross was named 2010 USAV Beach Female Player of the Year. Carli Lloyd was named the 2011 Division 1 college volleyball’s MVP. Carli most recently won the Italian Cup, one of the world’s toughest pro leagues.
At the prep level thirteen athletes were named JO All-Americans, and another ten athletes have served on various U.S. age-group national teams. In all, Ozhan has helped place over 175 athletes in four-year volleyball programs, thirty-nine of which have played at top 25 Division I programs and another thirty-nine athletes competed for Ivy League schools.
Outside of club Ozhan has trained women AVP beach players, and he continues to work in collaboration with members of the U.S. national team coaching staff through their various junior and youth level programs. Ozhan has maintained a position on the SCVA board since 2006 and continues to be the Southern California region’s primary representative at USA Volleyball’s YJOV meetings in Colorado Springs.
Ozhan received bachelor’s degrees in psychology and biology at UCSD in 1996 and received his Juris Doctorate in 2001. Ozhan is married to Stacy Bahrambeygui, and has two children Aiden and Indie, who join the happiest yellow Labrador on earth, Bentley.
