Velda Knutsen
Velda grew up in San Diego, California, playing volleyball on the beach since the age of 15; earned a “AAA” rating at 18, with her partner. Played two years of High School volleyball and received the honor of her teammates and coach naming her MVP. She also earned herself a spot on the All-CIF First Team. She started playing college ball but had to put volleyball on the back burner to have a career and family. Once her two daughters showed an interest in volleyball she went back into the game full force. She started coaching at Starlings, then moved to Solana Beach Volleyball Club, and for the last two years she’s been with La Jolla Volleyball Club. She has worked many clinics and received certifications from LA84, and Irvine all coaches, coaching clinics. Velda started the Standley Middle School Volleyball Program three years ago. Since re-entering college she is working as a director and has hired coaches to replace her to keep the program running.
Although, she has only been coaching for 6 years she has coached nearly 10 teams, and consistently brought her teams to outperform any previous finishes they have had in the past. She has accomplished this by coaching the fundamentals with fun, and teaching the players they can achieve what they believe, through visualization they will realize a new level of personal potential. She is a very positive coach with high expectations that has a way of pulling the best out of her players.
