Davis Ransom
Since picking up the game at noted volleyball powerhouse Edison High
School in Huntington Beach where he became an All-Conference
performer at both opposite hitter (1993) and as a record-breaking
setter (Most Assists in a Season, 1994) Davis has been involved in
nearly every aspect of volleyball.
From coaching collegiately with SDSU’s Club team, Western New Mexico
University, and San Diego Christian College, to competing at a high
level as a player on the beach (former AAA Rated Beach Player) and
indoor (Starting opposite hitter for the 1999 SDSU Men’s Club Team
that earned the highest national finish to that point in school
history - led the team in both kills and hitting percentage), to
coaching a great variety of both boys and girls club and high school
teams to strong performances both statewide and nationally, to
writing instructional articles for Prepvolleyball.com, Davis has
lived volleyball from its roots to the spotlight.
Some of his most memorable teams include the 2000 Bonita Vista
Barons (Mythical National Champions), the 1998 Coast 12-1s (his
first team at Coast –they earned a 3rd
place finish at the Volleyball Festival and did it with style), and
the 2002 SDSU Women’s Club Team who, at the National Tournament in
Dallas, Texas went from the 23rd
seed to a 9th
place finish.
In short, Davis has engaged such a wide range of volleyball
experiences that he feels “truly honored” to lead young people
through their unique experience with the sport. His most favorite
part of volleyball and Coast Volleyball Club, though, is “the
amazing, varied, and unique people (coaches, players, parents, and
even refs)” that he gets to meet.
Davis has his Masters in Education and his BA in Psychology from CSU
San Marcos. Davis is an English teacher and Associate Head Coach of
girls’ volleyball at La Jolla High School. In his free time he
enjoys reading (especially Robert Jordan), watching movies, playing
basketball, playing video games, golfing, and relaxing at the beach.
“Continuous effort – not strength not intelligence – is the key to
unlocking our potential” Winston Churchill
