Head Coach Jimmy Gekas

Jimmy G has coached volleyball since 1993 and we are lucky to have had him at Coast since 1994… That’s 15 YEARS!  Jimmy has coached both girls and boys programs at Torrey Pines (boys 4 years), San Dieguito (boys 2 years), and Francis Parker (girls 1 year).  Prior to coaching, Jimmy played on the CIF Championship Arcadia High School Team from 1986-1988. 

Jimmy says that he coaches, “To teach the future generations, bumping, spiking, digging, blocking, cheering, celebrating, etc.”

A long time friend of Coast’s director, Ozhan said, "I am lucky to have known Jimmy as both a player and a coach.  Jimmy and I have known each other since college and he is an exceptional coach as well as an exceptional person.

Very few clubs make the commitment to assigning their best coaches to their younger teams.  By having Jimmy take the 12-1s we are creating a brilliant future for the club.  In an effort to connect the club's elite athletes, Jimmy also assists with the 17s and 18s teams.  This provides our 'young guns' with a head start as they prepare for the sophistication required to excel in college."

Off the court, Jimmy is a professional photographer who owns Sideline Studios, a sports photography business based in North County. He is the official Athletic Department Photographer for UCSD were he completed his bachelor's degree in Economics in 1993.
