Head Coach Cody Oreiro

Cody comes to San Diego from the pacific northwest but calls SD home now. Originally coming to San Diego to continue his collegiate soccer career at the University of San Diego he was introduced to the incredible sport of volleyball. “I’d played soccer for over 15 years and I knew I was ready for something new and being in SD with the overflow of volleyball available to people both at the beach and indoor it was an easy choice. I withdrew from USD and transferred to play jr. college ball at Mesa College first red shirting under now Coast coach Kurt Donaldson and then playing for Kim Lester and assisted by now Shorebreak coach Bjorn Dahl. Being brand new to the sport I had a lot of questions and had to be very technically trained which in turn is very much integrated into my coaching style."

My first opportunity to coach came during my sophomore season of college volleyball, with a freshman team position at University of San Diego high school, now Cathedral Catholic. With the success of my freshman team was asked to stay on staff with the varsity team throughout CIF and state playoffs. Following my season at UNI I have since coached 1 yr at Serra high school as a stand-in head coach and 3years at Tri-city Christian as the Varsity assistant and JV coach of both the girls and boys programs as well as heading Tri-cities boys soccer program. I’ve been a part of  3 league championships, 4 CIF championships, 3 socal state championship finals and 1 state runner-up in my high school coaching career.

My club coaching experience started with Socal Volleyball club where I headed the girls 15-1’s team and assisted with boys 18-1 and 16-1. Following that year I came to Coast Volleyball club to assist the 16-1’s girls team with college friend Jackie Bernardin. Since then I’ve been granted the opportunity to work with some of the top athletes in the nation and learn from the deeply experienced coaching staff Coast offers.

“I coach volleyball because I believe in pushing and nurturing today’s young to talent to reach its potential I’m not only assisting them in their future as athletes and people but insuring the future of our sport.”  I cant think of a better environment to accomplish this in which is why I choose to continue to be a part of Coast Volleyball.
